Penn State added more depth to its offensive line on Monday with its first transfer portal addition of the cycle in the form of offensive tackle Alan Herron.

Herron hits the scales at 6-6 and 310 pounds and hails from the Division II Shorter University. He announced his intentions to enroll at Penn State on social media early Monday afternoon.

According to the 247 Network, Herron was a fairly sought after prospect once he entered the portal, with Penn State winning out over the likes of Maryland and Clemson among others. Herron will have two years of eligibility remaining once he enrolls at Penn State.

The Atlanta native will look to be a big part of Penn State’s almost entirely overhauled offensive line in 2024 with the majority of the Nittany Lions’ starting line set to either graduate or depart to the NFL. By virtue of position, Herron will be among those looking to replace tackle Olu Fashanu, who is expected to go potentially within the top 10 of the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.

It’s unlikely that Herron or any current Nittany Lion will be able to fully replace the consistency that Fashanu brought to the position the past two years, but they will certainly be charged with trying.
